Birth Trauma.

Birth trauma, is undoubtedly an issue in our maternity system. Trauma can be experienced in different ways, antenatally, during birth or post-partum, and for the person involved those feelings or memories can potentially affect them for years to come. It can be because of a comment that someone said, or how they said it at a particularly vulnerable time, or a specific event, which then can have a devastating impact often resulting in depression, anxiety, or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

This also may not even be a trauma related to pregnancy or birth, it can be any kind of trauma where you have experienced difficult emotions and feelings, which can leave you in a state of fear or high anxiety, perhaps on a day to day basis.

It can show itself in a number of ways:

 Tearfulness

 Flashbacks / nightmares / panic attacks

 Recurrent intrusive thoughts and memories

 Feelings of helplessness, panic or vulnerability

Numbness or avoidance of all reminders of the trauma

Difficulties in relationships / bonding

Anxieties about future pregnancies or birth

Physical reactions such as the body tightening, breathlessness or nausea

The past cannot be changed, but the three step rewind is a gentle process created to avoid re-triggering or traumatising. Therefore your experience doesn’t have to be discussed in any detail. It helps to release unwanted or negative feelings attached to that experience or memory. It uses NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) techniques coupled with deep relaxation and hypnosis. The course is set over three zoom sessions, not in person. This is because it gives a sense of distance and also security for both the client and the practitioner, so that the client can feel safe in their own environment.

Step 1 – Approximately 90 minutes…listening to your experience or story if you choose to share it, exploring and focusing on how you could feel or would like to feel if you were free from these difficult feelings and emotions, ending with a relaxation exercise at the end which will then be shared with you for you to listen to between sessions. 
Step 2 – Approximately 60 minutes…(one week after step one) this is the rewind process, where you are guided into deep relaxation, helping to disassociate and disconnect from your memory and from the difficult emotions and feelings, so then the memory is no longer as intense with emotionally charged triggers.
Step 3 – Approximately 60 minutes…(one week after step two) checking back in to notice and see what changes have been experienced, perhaps some shifts in the memory or feelings around it and if any further support is required going forward, ending on a future focused relaxation, which is then shared with you for listening to going forward.
